March Update: StoryBrand Summarized

What Is StoryBrand?

Have you ever left a website confused by what the company did or felt turned off by their “look at us!” attitude?

Confusing your customers is a great way to lose sales to your competition!

That’s why LifeX uses the StoryBrand Framework in our marketing strategy.

At its core, StoryBrand wants everyone who visits your website to know three things quickly:

  1. What your business does
  2. How your product or service benefits them
  3. How they get your product or service

Using story-based messaging, hence the name “StoryBrand,” the goal is to help customers who interact with your brand to see how you help solve their problem.

StoryBrand uses 7 main elements to form the core messaging for your business, website, and marketing:

  1. A Character (your customer)
  2. Has a Problem (the problem you solve)
  3. And meets a Guide (yay, this is your business!)
  4. Who gives them a Plan (how the customer works with your business)
  5. And calls them to Action (make it clear what they need to do)
  6. That ends in Success (how their life will be better with your service/product)
  7. And avoid Failure (the negatives of not having their problem solved)

Answering these 7 steps is a critical part in developing and designing a website that clearly shows what your company does and how you help your customers.

The Storybrand Framework

Top 4 Benefits of StoryBrand

While StoryBrand has a lot of benefits, these are the top 4 we observe with our clients:

1 - Make it clear what you do

I’ve seen plenty of ‘fancy websites’ that have lots of neat images and animations, but I don’t know what the company actually does!

StoryBrand helps quickly and clearly tell your customers what your business offers, both in words and visuals.

2 - Make it easy to work with you

Have you ever been on a website that you were interested in, but you had to look around to know how to buy the product or work with the company?

Having unclear or missing Calls To Action (CTAs) are one of the top ways to frustrate potential customers!

StoryBrand emphasizes having clear CTAs that are easy to find and understand. Common examples include Buy Now, Get A Free Estimate, View Inventory, Call Or Text Us, or Visit Us.

3 - Show How You Solve The Customer’s Problem

If the customer doesn’t know how you are going to solve their problem, they probably won’t work with you.

That’s why StoryBrand emphasizes talking about how your company’s products or services will help your customers. Instead of putting a lot of “about our company” information on main pages, the focus is showing how you help solve the customer’s problem.

4 - Have A Core Messaging Narrative

If you are reading this, there is a good chance your business went through a StoryBrand messaging meeting. And if you were the person in the meeting, we thank you again for your time and mental energy!

Often referred to as a “Brandscript” or “Business Narrative,” one of the core documents that comes from a messaging meeting is a clear set of talking points that we use to build landing pages, email campaigns, social media ads, print ads, and much more.
